What is your experience of working with us?
We use our industry experience work closely with our customers and clients to provide the best service, information and materials.
It is important that you are supported with our expertise to make the best informed decisions when investing in your new solar power and storage system.
With Gedlec's experience as an electrical contractor, we are able to base our decision on what is best electrically and financially for your business.
Review the sections below for a high level overview of what to expect when it comes to sizing, installation and monitoring of your new commercial system.
SIZING OF SYSTEMS
Typically a residential system size ranges between 6 and 10kW. Your commercial system can be sized
between 6kW to 1MW and beyond - we have hands on experience of installing these commercial systems.
Below is a brief explanation about system sizes...
Less than 30kW
A 30kW system will take up 150-300m2 of roof space. The space required for installation will increase if the panels are installed on tilt frames to achieve the pitch of the roof that provides an optimal angle for production.
In Melbourne a 30kW system will average 39.5MW of production per year. The price of a 30kW or less system is less expensive on a $/kW basis because the grid protection equipment and electrical engineering costs are not required. A savings of approximately $1800 a month can be expected when the generated power is self consumed, which is the case with most businesses that operate during the day.
30kW - 99.99kW
This system size requires the grid protection and network agreements mentioned above. The Gedlec team provides the necessary electrical engineering required for these projects from 30kW and above. This type of system can have upwards of 250 panels installed so structural engineering is required to ensure that a building can withstand the additional weight atop of the roof. Typically these systems are installed on small manufacturing, timber yards, offices and child care centres.
100kW - 300kW
Once the size of a system is 100kW or over, the STC discount is no longer applied. There is no need to worry, although because LGC's apply instead. An LGC is based on the generation of the system, so it is very important that an experienced company is used for the design and installation. A separate meter is installed to measure the generation and the LGC's are paid every year and will add some extra paperwork to your yearly reporting. We use Solar Analytics to help businesses with this process. This size system would be installed on a large office, small to medium manufacturing and small schools.
300kW +
These size systems require a highly skilled and experienced company to complete. Gedlec's team has experience in successfully handing over projects of this size in a timely manner. This system size is installed on schools, large manufacturing and food processing plants.

Monitoring
Your business can greatly benefit from knowing how and when power is being consumed. This information can be used to decide the best sized system and help to change energy usage habits to maximise the use of a solar system.
It can can be used as preventative maintenance to alert a business owner of faulty equipment like air conditioning or a machine. Notifications like this can save a business thousands in loss of time.
When a system is 100kW or more, a product like Solar Analytics is used to calculate the LGC's to be paid for an installation.
